For Polina Moroz‘ MAREMATA LAMP, massive bronze is hand-cast and oxidized into a surprisingly delicate shape, recalling an exotic flower or a dancing body in movement, among other. Similarly to half-closed blinds in an afternoon room, the space around the object is lit in fragments only, lea- ving traces of light and shadow on walls and surrounding.
Polina Moroz‘ work derives from subtle observations of form, function and color and light, often connected to the artist‘s personal experience. They are observations of organic and human-made structures in cities and in nature and of materiality in constant process. Cultural, personal and po- litical layers of signification are blended into objects and works of fragile presence, often reflecting light and space in very particular ways.
About Polina Moroz:
Born and raised in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1992, Polina Moroz trained as an architect in Sweden and Denmark, specialising in experimental design.
Polina Moroz has lived in Paris for many years and works both as an artist and as a designer. In her work, motifs from nature, mysticism, legends and traditional customs meet postmodern and contemporary art designs. Her objects are often also works of art; their surfaces are reminiscent of organic materials, agragate objects that are always in motion and allow light and space to be experienced in very different ways.
